Scarlet Macaw
Height for Human and Animal Counterpart:
As a human, she is 5’2 and isn’t getting any taller. As a Scarlet Macaw, she stands around 35.5 inches from her claws to the top of her head.
Description of Appearance Human and Animal Counterpart:
Krystal:
She is, as was stated earlier, 5’2. At the very top is her head, covered with long gold-blonde hair that travels to the middle of her back. It can be seen held up by a ribbon of any color usually, but sometimes she lets her hair down. Her eyes are blue. Not just any shade of blue, but the shade of blue you can only see after a particularly bad thunderstorm. They are situated on either side of a slim nose with a slight upturn at the end. Beneath this nose are light cherry lips. The lower is fuller than the upper, giving them a slightly more sensual appearance. Her ears are placed on either side of her head, the right one slightly more forward than the other – not like you would notice if she hadn’t told you. Her forehead is a tad bit too small for her face, but it’s alright. Her cheeks usually have a light tinge of red to them, a pretty contrast against her olive complexion.
Her chest isn’t huge, but it’s not small either. It’s a good sized bust for an adult, and so is her bottom. Her arms, when relaxed at her sides, let her hands hand just below her waist. Her fingers are long and slender, making her hands seem even larger. Her stomach is flat, but not as if she works out every day. No, it’s more from working all the time keeps her active, and in being active it keeps her from getting fat. Her legs are thirty inches, with her long feet at the end. Her toes are short, in contrast to her fingers.
She is one who doesn’t slouch, and is usually sitting pretty much straight up. The same goes for walking. Her shoulders are squared and her back is straight, her head usually held up high. She is proud of who she is, even if no one else knows who she is. She can usually be found in clothes that allow her to move quickly , but look formal enough. She usually wears dresses with a slit up one side, and if she's going to heal, she'll have a brown satchel on her back with a dagger at her right hip. She uses it for mincing herbs, but it's also good for protecting herself with, because not all people are afraid of attacking a healer.
Scarlet Macaw:
As a macaw, she stands about 35 inches off the ground, and her wings, from tip to tip, are 42 inches. She is as beautiful as they come. Her head is red, except for around the eyes, which are short white feathers. Her beak, at the base, is black, but as it extends along it is the same shade of olive as her human skin tone. Her eyes as well are the same shade of blue as her human form. Her neck and the top inch of her wings and back is the same scarlet as her head. An inch and a half after the red is a row of yellow, followed by a row of blue tinged with green, purple, or black at the edges. Her tail feathers were red with the edge feathers being blue. Her claws are black and her feet themselves are grey speckled with white.
History:
Krystal was born in a small village near Ja’rish. They were far enough away that they had become self sufficient instead of relying on the large city. Krystal’s parents were Jason and Lisa Clarke, both who had their own professions in the village. Her father was a farmer, plain and simple as dirt, but more charming. He sold his goods to traveling merchants to sell in Ja’rish. Her mother was the village healer, who could heal humans and animals alike with her herbs and poultices. The two were actually neighbors while growing up. They played and stuck together, eventually getting married. They had two sons before they had their only daughter Krystal. Their first son, Darian, went to join the army when he turned eighteen – while Krystal was only six. He was killed two years later in a fight with rebels. Her other brother, Samuel, was a farmer like her father, and would inherit the farm when her father was too old to work any longer.
Her mother taught them, both her brothers and Krystal herself, their letters and numbers when they became old enough. She didn’t want them to be taken advantage of in the markets or frowned upon for not being as intelligent as others. They learned reading and some writing as well before they began to learn their professions, but once they were working as something else, she didn’t wish to distract them. So, she left then with what knowledge she’d given them, which was more than some children would get.
Krystal was in a unique situation. She could be anything that the village offered, a merchant, barkeep, a healer, a farmer, anything. There were many choices, and no one disliked her, and they didn’t want to offend their healer either! However, after perusing each line of work, she found she liked healing best, and began to learn from her mother all that she knew. Her education started when she was only ten, because living in a small village you teach them so they can make something of themselves as quick as they can. As she was learning from her mother, she learned more of writing and reading as well, for she was expected to keep a book to help her remember everything. After learning the basics from her mother, she was allowed to help children while her mother watched over her. By the time she was eleven she could make the cure for all common illnesses among humans – especially children, and could heal most illnesses in animals. Her mother began teaching her more uncommon illnesses for both species, all of which she diligently kept in her healing tome. She’d begun chapters, the first on common illnesses in humans, the next was the same, except it was for animals. And she continued this way, because it was how her mother taught her. First humans, then animals, because animals were more complicated in some ways than humans, though simpler in others, and vice versa.
When she was fifteen her mother had taught her most of what she knew. Krystal had all of it stored in her memory and her healing tome. It was only child birth and broken bones she needed to actually learn to set to complete her schooling, though she’d had all of that within her tome as well, on the off chance her mother wasn’t around when she needed to do so. She had gone back, when she had completed her book, to make it so that everything was step by step, so even if a person who’d never healed before opened the book, they could probably concoct an antidote. Except, of course, the more uncommon diseases, which were hard enough to get information on. Even her mother only had very small knowledge of those, which she made notes of. Then, at the very end were all her notes on plants, with the actual herb fastened to the page. It wasn’t long until someone needed a healer for a birth, so when that occurred, her mother drug her along. It was very messy, but she learned how to do the job. The next one, her mother told her she would be the one delivering the child, with her mother only there to make sure she did it right. And she did. The baby was a healthy girl that had no complications, which her mother warned her about.
At seventeen, she watched her mother set the broken arm of a child that fell out of a tree. It wasn’t that hard, and her mother actually let her help, guiding Krystal’s hands with her own. She stayed, learning with her mother until she felt she needed to move on. Her mother was still young enough to teach the other child she had begun teaching as an apprentice when she’d turned sixteen. She decided to travel away from home and see the world, to help others as only a healer could. So, she packed some clothes, an apron, her books, and money her parents gave her and she had earned over the years. Then, she said her farewells, promising to come visit every couple years or so.
Now she’s twenty and she travels from city to city. Her main home is currently the capital of Rhyallia, Tannoch, where she has a store of herbs, poltices, and potions. She plans on taking on an apprentice, whenever she can find one that will take the job seriously.
Education:
Home schooled – taught by her mother who was the village healer.
Occupation:
Healer
Political Affiliation:
She is on the right side of the law, but will help anyone in need, be they crook or the empress herself.
Current Home:
She mainly stays within Tannoch, but as she can become a bird, she can fly to other cities if she feels like a change in scenery, or to check on the health of the people there – mainly the children.
Description of Personality:
Krystal is a very fun loving girl, when she isn’t working. She can make most, if not all, smile, when she really tries. Krystal will be flashing smiles, telling jokes, laughing, and just all over the place. She can't help it, it's in her nature to be happy and loud. Even so, she never stops paying attention. She likes to dance and sing, and just be merry. She loves children and cats, and won’t ever turn someone away just because they can’t pay. She charges whatever the person is able to pay, even if it’s in goods. She feels that turning someone away just because they aren’t able to pay you, such as a sick beggar child, is a horrible crime. Just because she’s happy and almost carefree, it doesn’t mean that she doesn’t pay attention to others needs and feelings.
When she gets angry, and she does, just like every other human, you should watch out. She has a sharp tongue to go along with her sharp mind. Besides, a healer knows every place that can soothe and give pain, so you wouldn’t want to piss her off. You might just get what you weren’t expecting. She has the gift of empathy, that of being aware of the feelings of those around her. Sometimes, if the mood of the area is very strong, her own demeanor might be influenced, though it’s very rare that emotions can get that strong. She dislikes being told that she is not allowed to do something, especially if a guard tells her not to help someone they had just punished. She hates how people enjoy watching others suffer. She just wants to bring peace to the people, and she feels she’s fighting a losing battle.
Personal Premise/Ambition/Motto:
“I will never turn my back on a child."
