Icy storms are blanketing all of Rhyallia. The Isca Peninsula has been hit by several hurricanes.

UPDATES

My talent for updating (or lack thereof) makes me a little doubtful that I'll manage to keep this updated, but I'll try. =)

November 11, 2009
Finally sitting down and updating Identity! *Pats self on back.* The Air Skin is still under-construction, but is more or less done. What IS done, are the new boards. You can find them scattered about in all the Rhyallia boards, and all are non-city places for RPing fights or other, more unusual, meetings. If you have suggestions for additional boards that you'd like to see, please post in the Updates board. I think I'm also going to bring in some activities and prizes...so look for that. XD

October already! I can't believe how fast September went. I spent most of it sick, too. :(
Anyway, some pretty new main images for you to enjoy. Updated them and made them bigger. I think it looks a little nicer. New earth skin coming soon, and I'm going to start the air skin, which will take care of all 5 main elements. It'll also give the site a new default skin, which we need.
~flippedside~

September 3, 2009
Congrats to EternallyAlone, who is our new forum designer! She'll be doing part of the graphics and skins and helping me to keep up-to-date on all that stuff. =)br /> ~flippedside~

August 31, 2009
Mappiness! I updated the map into what I hope is a more readable version. Also, you may see some upcoming board changes. The history thread is an ongoing thing...I made a whole board for it, though, so there won't be one ridiculously long thread. =P
~flippedside~

July 30, 2009
Added a little more information about Rhyallia, so if you haven't checked out all the threads in the Library, you might want to. I've finally begun the history thread! I expect it will take a while for me to get a fairly complete collection of stories and information up there, but you can watch for that.
If anyone has any stories they want to write about Rhyallia's history, contact me. XD

June 23, 2009
Been working on updating some of the older skins. There should be some nice pretty new images for "Night" and "Earth" soon. I'm still running around a bit, but as soon as I'm done adjusting images, I'm going to change the default skin and then update threads...Poor Identity. *pets* I've neglected you much too long...
=) ~flippedside~

May 26, 2009
I bet you're all happy to see me take Identity out of MM. ;P I have one month left and then break...Still not finished, but at least the boards are set to what I want, so you can go back to RPing. Happiness! Sorry for my long absences. I'm really missing RPing, but I don't have the time (and energy) to come up with good posts...
~flippedside~

May 6, 2009
So, no major announcements. Board is still in the process of adjustment. Sorry for the long time in MM, but I don't have much time to be on here right now. Still, it's getting there.

Nrr'iss paused before answering the Asrafelean's first question: her name. She didn't mind answering, but the question was: how to pronounce it? She settled on giving her both forms. "Mar na Nrr'iss," she said in the unicorn tongue. It was a nasal language, with heavy accents. Her name was said in two parts: the first like a neigh in the back of the throat, the second a hiss of breath almost resembling a sneeze, except soft. "But I understand if you can't pronounce that," she continued in the Rhyallian language. "You can call me Nrr'iss if that is easier." She pronounced the second title as simple letters, recognizable as "ner" in the back of the throat, and "iss" with the tongue. "Most non-unicorns pronounce it that way," she added, so that it was not a slight to the woman, but an adjustment in pronunciation for a tongue and mouth that didn't work quite the same as her own.

As for her second admission of being young...Ah, that makes sense, Nrr'iss thought. The young did tend to be hot tempered, but it would also explain her abrupt mood changes. Part of that was due to personality, as well, of course...She couldn't help thinking that if the woman was truly that young, then it seemed odd that she would be sent out alone on...some sort of mission. Never mind, cultures and traditions varied, and it wasn't for Nrr'iss to judge...

The woman had shut her eyes and was clearly focused, so Nrr'iss waited until she was done before asking a question of her own. "You know my name; might I know yours?" she asked politely. Unicorns were very good at polite.

She was intrigued by the woman's silent wait on the distant orders of another. The traditions of others fascinated Nrr'iss: especially ones involving order and dominance. Since she lived alone, she did not experience this. Unicorn herds had no leaders; everyone was expected to take a fair share. Everyone shared in the decisions, and when needed, one would step up as guide or leader, though they were never more than another: even in the position of leader, all were still equal. So she had no personal knowledge of such a structure, but knew that most cultures used it.

She focused in on the problem. "I have heard of this thing before, though that was hundreds of years ago, and at the time, it was apparently asleep." Nrr'iss paused, gathering scattered memories that hadn't been touched in over a hundred years. "Once, I traveled far to the north: beyond the boundaries of the living. There were...things...that lived there. They were something like ice elementals: almost wraith-like. Nothing else could survive, it was a frozen wasteland of ice and snow that even the sun didn't touch. But these creatures had stories of a monster that was encased ice, sleeping until someone called him forth. I found it fascinating, but saw no sign of the beast." She couldn't say that she disbelieved them, but she hadn't fully believed, either. "Their descriptions were strange and vague, but I am fairly certain that they spoke of the same creature that killed the giant serpent." She tried to remember what they had said, but the picture that came to mind was black and winged with a prison of ice surrounding it and locking it down. It had been silent...

Nrr'iss remembered something else. "Apparently it had been imprisoned there over a thousand years before...They said it thrived on destruction..." That would make sense, but her mind still questioned, "to what end?" Many things destroyed for no reason, but she still had the sense of madness clinging to a dark purpose. That was, at any rate, what she had picked up from the serpent. Perhaps there was no reason and the creature had been grasping at justification for violence in it's last moments...It was hard to tell.

What had the monster been called? Her memory struggled...The dark...Something. She couldn't quite find it. And other questions surfaced: How had it been imprisoned and why? No creature was completely free from death.

"Hmm. It seems I may need to take a trip back to the frozen north," she murmured to herself.

[Sorry this has taken forever and a day to reply to - if I'm honest, I kept forgetting about it, or remembering but not having the time to post then forgetting again. Sorry again >_<]

Z’kani listened closely to Nrr’iss’ name on both pronunciations and her following words, then replicated the unicorn’s way of speaking with the barest hint of accent and difficulty. It felt strange in her throat, but she could pronounce it. She then said ‘Nrr’iss’ in her normal voice, considering them both.
“Which way would you prefer to be called?” She asked, smiling slightly, before answering Nrr’iss’ question.

“Z’kani Akona Fotaeira; just Z’kani will do though.” She replied evenly, then listened to Nrr’iss, threads of mint green weaving into her eyes as she heard.

’Beyond the living?’ She wondered silently, then speaking when Nrr’iss stopped.
“Did their descriptions resemble this at all?"She asked, then, ignoring the sickening chills that ripped up her arms and spine, projected the image the serpent had shown her. It too was vague; blurred black shadows, clouded further by vast amounts of pain and anguish, but the menace and bloodlust emanating from it was unmistakably ancient, and even more terrifying for it.

At that moment, she felt K’saar haze back into her senses, jumping into her mind without hesitation as her eyes glazed over.

’Whatever that thing is, it has got to be bad – Aunite even flinched when he saw it.’ He jabbered quickly in Asrafel, too worried to bother thinking in Rhyallian, and the message made Z’kani blink dazedly. Aunite flinched? Aunite?

She suddenly felt the fear of this unknown beast increase one thousand fold.

Dimly, she was aware of K’saar’s mind mirroring the emotion.
’So, what’d he say? She asked in the same tongue, forehead creasing in concern.
K’saar paused, then, rather than relaying Aunite’s words, merely played the meeting back in his head for Z’kani to see.
She felt herself automatically straightening up, even though she wasn’t actually there and Aunite couldn’t see her.

She watched through K’saar’s eyes as he hazed into the throne room, the dark smoke-like tendrils clearing to reveal their leader stationed at the far wall, examining a massive map of the Northern Wastes with a recent report in his hand, quietly removing and repositioning small coloured pegs on the map to another area a few inches away from their old position. His massive gold and black wings held him aloft, lazily beating to keep him in place. At the other end of the wall, his sister Kainite was engaged in the same activity, the colour of her wings reversed; black feathers and gold skin in comparison to Aunite’s gold feathers and black membrane.
“K’saar.” Aunite called back without looking around, instead taking a peg from a large cluster that represented the barracks and Fortress of the Fall Hours and moving it a few metres to the right, representing a unit hazing from one position to another. “I expected your report a few hours from now. What caused the change?” He looked at the newly arrived Asrafel then, half turning his head and shifting his dark crimson eyes to their corners.
Z’kani felt K’saar’s lungs inflate with air as he sighed, then succinctly told of what had happened. By the end, both of the other Asrafel had paused in their strategic placing and had turned to face K’saar fully.
“Did Z’kani show you the image of this unknown beast she was shown by the serpent?” Aunite asked, receiving a nod and a quiet ‘sir’ in reply.
“Show me.”Z’kani managed to take some small satisfaction as she saw Aunite’s face blanch for a moment, his body jerking back slightly in a reflex reaction to the pure hatred and craving for death the beast was projecting.
Recovering quickly, Aunite blinked and straightened up again, gliding lightly to the floor and landing just in front of the large ornate throne that was raised on an alter. K’saar took a few steps close, so he was at the base of the steps.
“I’ve seen this creature before, when it was locked in ice, and it is not something few people can overcome.” He said quietly, over the shock but still greatly troubled by what he’d saw.
Looking up sharply, gaze boring directly into K’saar’s, his next words almost gave Z’kani a heart attack.
“Z’kani, do not attempt to find this thing alone. I’m saying this directly to you as I know you’ll be watching this through K’saar’s mind when he gets back. Neither of you are to go looking for this creature, or are to try and attack it should it find you. If that is to occur, haze back here straight away. And I mean
here, right to this room. I want to know this creature’s movements as they happen, if you are unlucky enough to witness them. I shall contact you as soon as a way of defeating or re-imprisoning this creature is devised. Until then, continue with your previous assignment. You may want to warn the unicorn to not try anything either, although from what I’ve seen she has good sense. The North may be the safest place to be; if the creature has escaped, or been freed, then it would least want to return to its place of entombment. The beings there may also know of a way to stop it again, if the legends have been passed down or the ones there when the beast was first imprisoned still exist. Until then, avoid this creature as best as you know how. Those are my orders for now.” His usually crimson eyes blazing purple to support his sincere words calmed again, although the agitated look remained as he dismissed K’saar and began talking heatedly with Kainite, who had flown over and taken her place at her brother’s right shoulder during the exchange. The black trails of haze obscured them from view, then cleared to show a star lit sky and its endless mirror image in the Shadow Lake. From the vantage point, Z’kani guessed K’saar was seated on one of the peaks of the ringing mountains.

‘So, you see why we should be worried. Why everyone should be worried.’ K’saar concluded, that worry reflected in his tone the way the stars were reflected in the water.
Yes. And we can’t do a thing about it. Z’kani replied heavily, not knowing whether to be bitter or relieved.

Quietly, she refocused her troubled eyes and told Nrr’iss the gist of what had happened and passed on Aunite’s suggested warning, excluding the unnecessary details such as Aunite’s initial reaction. He’d gut her and K’saar if either of them told anyone.

"Ah. If you can pronounce it, you are a special creature indeed," Nrr'iss said, strangely pleased to hear her name spoken correctly. There was an accent to the woman's voice that was probably much broader to Nrr'iss' ears than the woman's, but it was pleasant to hear her "true" name. "If you can pronounce it without too much difficulty, I, of course, prefer to hear my name in my own tongue." She allowed a rare quiet smile to grace her face, her horn turning silver.

The woman spoke her name--Z'kani--and then listened intently to Nrr'iss' description of her travels and the tales she had heard. Nrr'iss watched intently as she spoke, studying the subtle signs the woman made in response. She didn't yet know her well enough to understand all the emotions the woman projected through eyes, face, and body, but she did sense concern.

In reply to Nrr'iss' words, Z'kani showed her the image she had taken from the serpent. "It is the creature," Nrr'iss murmured softly, sending her thought to the woman. But the woman's eyes had again taken on the glazed look of someone who was distance speaking, so the unicorn didn't know if Z'kani had heard her or not. She waited patiently, a deep sickness settling into her bones.

So the stars were right. Something ancient is alive again, and though it does not move yet, it will change the future to patterns that do not belong. Patterns that portray darkness and destruction. An age is coming that no creature will wish to see...

Z'kani's expression changed and she repeated a message from her leader. Nrr'iss' large ears twitched as she took in the message. "Anyone would be foolish to try to fight such a creature alone...Or even in a group," she agreed quietly. Sadness turned her horn slightly opaque for a moment, before it re-lit itself with a quiet swirl of colors. It settled into a dark blue that hinted at anger and fear.

"I think the wisest course of action would be to go to the North Pole. It is a long journey for me, though perhaps not for you. If your leader thinks it would help to know more from the Ice Creatures, then I will tell you where to meet me and perhaps we can find them. They may not shed anymore light on this creature, but I suspect that they will know more--at least in legends and tales."

*OOC: Um, ending this thread... I think everything that needs saying has been said. So Z'kani can reply, and then we can maybe eventually start a new thread... Yay for moving the plot on Identity along....

Z’kani nodded at Nrr’iss’ suggestion, then nudged K’saar’s mind again. He was already turning his attention outwards, to speak to Aunite.
She waited with him for their Lord’s answer, and quickly questioned K’saar as soon as he gave her his thoughts again.
Well?
He says to go. Perhaps these old legends hold clues as to how to destroy or reseal the beast. I’m to stay here as a go-between for you, so you can keep him updated. He’s sending another team to finish our assignment in the Star Court.’ K’saar responded, worry still touching his tone.
Okay. I’ll keep in touch.’ Z’kani said, getting ready to close the mental connection until he thought again.
I know you will. Being away from me as it is will kill you, poor love.
Two things. Don’t call me love, sudil, we’ve had that conversation before. And how can you joke after what you’ve just heard?
Easy. Winding you up is a stress reliever for me. Now get your feathers moving!
With that, K’saar severed their link, leaving Z’kani to silently cuss to herself.

Quietly hoping Aunite would freeze K’saar into an ice statue, Z’kani refocused on the patient equine and delivered the Asrafel Lord’s verdict. “I’m to accompany you to the North Pole, and gather as much information as possible. I’m looking mainly for ways to reseal the creature, or kill it, if the myths still hold those details.” She told Nrr’iss, hoping the unicorn hadn’t heard the two Asrafel’s less-than-grave exchange. She was pretty sure the sensible creature wouldn’t approve, and Z’kani would have to agree. She’d skin K’saar when she next saw him.

“Just tell me where to meet you, and I’ll get there as soon as I can.” She added, opening her dark wings and pushing away from the rock, drifting a few feet above her stone seat and thinking of the best route to take as she headed north.

[OOC: colour galore...sorry about that]

Nrr'iss waited patiently while the Asrafelean communicated with her companions. She was silently impressed by the distance that they could maintain while still communicating with one another. Others she'd spoken with had been limited in their mind speaking powers: distance voided the ability to speak with thoughts. Clearly that was not true in this case.

At last, Z'kani returned her attention to Nrr'iss. The unicorn waited while the woman explained her purposes. They matched Nrr'iss' well. Though she thought perhaps she would prefer a different traveling companion. Ah, well.

"Food is scarce there. I expect you know that, but what I remember is that everything froze nearly immediately. Bringing food may not be another problem--being able to eat it is another matter. Be prepared, storms rage across snow fields frequently, coming up without warning. Heat may be a problem."
Nrr'iss related her knowledge from her prior trip. She could not accurately explain the far north to Z'kani, nor it's inherent dangers. Still, she could advise a bit and hope that the woman used that as insurance to move with extra caution.

"I cannot leave immediately and it will take me time to travel there by hoof. Still, I expect we can plan to meet in a month's time above Karnaim Lake. There are twin peaks that overlook the lake on its north side. They rise behind a ridge, but are quite tall and easily marked. The Castan Range continues on past that point, but it will be easiest if we meet there. Past the mountains, the true north begins and that land...is different."

She tilted her heading, thinking. "Nothing lives there, but many creatures dwell there. I am not so sure that they are alive in the sense that you and I are alive. They have their own dangers simply in that they will not see us as something that suffers and dies. However, they will also be the ones to provide us with information."

Nrr'iss paused, wandering if there was anything she'd missed. She didn't think so. The mountains were tall, rising well above the surrounding peaks. "I will wait for you in the narrow saddle between the two peaks."
